Commuters returning home by Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Vaishali/Noida City Centre) on Wednesday faced an infrequent and slow metro service as a technical glitch threw a spanner in the routine run.

A Delhi Metro official said the long halts were because of the breaking of an over-head wire (OHE) at Dwarka on the line going towards Dwarka Sector 21. The malfunction which resulted in bunching up of trains occurred at 5:45 p.m.

"The contact wire of the OHE is found broken between Dwarka Mor and Dwarka section (Up Line going from Rajiv Chowk towards Dwarka). A maintenance team is on the spot for repairs," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official told IANS.

The incident occurred when office workers were leaving for home, a majority from industrial hub Noida, and gave a harrowing time to the commuters as they remained stuck in metro trains which were taking unusually long halts at every station.

"My train remained stationary at the Akshardham station for more than 10 minutes. Then same happened at the Yamuna Bank station," Somrita Ghosh, a media professional returning from Noida told IANS.
