Spain defeated India 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the WSF World Junior Squash Team Championship here Tuesday.
In the first singles, Madhav Dhingra lost to Iker Pajares 4-11, 9-11, 6-11, but Kush Kumar tied the scores by taking the second singles with a 11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-6, against Edmon Lopez-Moller. However, Bernat Jaume clinched the issue for Spain by defeating Vijay Kumar Meena 11-7, 11-2, 6-11, 11-7 in the deciding third singles.
Pajares was very fast on court and rattled Dhingra into making unforced errors. The Indian had his chance in the second game at 9-9 before making an unforced error on the drop. The Spaniard then took charge of the match and went on to win.
Kush Kumar seemed to be in control of the match after winning the first game easily. Lopez-Moller, however, came back charging and played very aggressive squash to win the second and third games to take a 2-1 lead.
Kumar came back very strong in the fourth moving his opponent to all corners. In the fifth, Lopez-Moller did not have the legs to go the distance and Kumar wrapped up the tie.
In the third singles, Jaume played at a very fast pace against Meena and regularly hit the forehand cross court into the nick to ensure Spain won for their best ever result at the World Juniors.
