Sri Lanka has assured India that it is committed to implementing the 13th amendment in its constitution, an official said Monday.

"Our stand is that whatever decision has been taken by Sri Lanka for its people should be implemented. We have been assured by Sri Lanka that they are committed to implement the 13th amendment," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

The 13th amendment to Sri Lankan constitution sought to set up provincial councils with specified powers in the country, in accordance with the provisions of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord of 1987, to give more powers to the minorities.
