The proposal to give constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) is being processed, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sudarshan Bhagat said Tuesday.
"The proposal to give constitutional status to NCBC is in the process. The modalities to amend the constitution, that is required to give constitutional status to NCBC, take time," Bhagat informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
The NCBC is a statutory panel established under the provisions of the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993.
Bhagat added, however, the process to give the constitutional status will take time.
