Three goals from substitute striker Kevin Gameiro helped Atletico Madrid defeat Sporting Gijon 4-1 in the 23rd round of La Liga here on Saturday. The win secured the fourth place for the capital club with 45 points.
After a goalless first half, Yannick Carrasco opened scoring for Atletico in the first minute of the second half, but Sergio Alvarez scored the equaliser for Gijon just three minutes later, reports Efe news agency.
Frenchman Gameiro, who entered the pitch in the 61st minute, scored the second goal in 80th minute and added the third goal one minute later.
Gameiro scored his third goal and the fourth for his side five minutes before the end of the game.
Sporting Gijon hold the 18th place with only 16 points.
