The Sudanese army announced Wednesday that it has repulsed two rebel attacks in Darfur and South Kordofan regions.
"Rebels from Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) targetted a commercial convoy in central Darfur State, while rebels of the Revolutionary Front bombarded Dalamy town in South Kordofan, which resulted in the killing of a number of women and children," reported Xinhua citing Ashrouq quoting Al- Sawarmy Khalid Saad, the Sudanese army spokesperson.
Saad explained that the Sudanese army repulsed the rebels, killed and wounded a great number of them and confiscated 14 armed Land Cruiser vehicles and weaponry, noting that seven soldiers from the Sudanese army were killed.
On the other hand, he said the Revolutionary Front, an alliance which brings together four rebel groups, targetted Dalamy town in South Kordofan state, which has been witnessing frequent armed clashes since 2011.
"The rebels attacked the town from two axis with the aim to enter it. A number of soldiers from the Sudanese army were wounded, " he noted.
He said the army repulsed the attackers and forced them to flee after heavy losses, noting that the army pursued the rebels in a wide-range combing operation which aims to restore security and stability to the town.
The Sudanese Army is fighting rebels groups in South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur regions to end the rebellion in those regions. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir vowed earlier to end the rebellion in various areas of the country by 2014.
