Supplementary demands for grants tabled in Lok Sabha

The government on Thursday moved supplementary demands for grants in the Lok Sabha seeking leave for additional cash spending of around Rs 85,315 crore.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal moved the supplementary demands for grants in the House amid din, as MPs from different parties protested over the Rs 12,600-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and other issues.

This is the fourth batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2017-18, which includes 72 grants and two appropriations.

"Approval of the Parliament is sought to authorise Rs 9,06,835.66 crore. Of this, the proposal involving net cash outgo aggregates to Rs 85,315 crore, and gross additional expenditure, matched by savings of the ministeries and departments or by enhanced receipts, aggregates to Rs 8,21,519.19 crore," the Demands for Grants document read.

Of the total amount, Rs 62,714 crore has been sought by the Finance Ministry for Goods and Services Tax (GST) -related compensations, and Rs 5,721.90 crore has been sought for interest payments by the government.

Around Rs 9,260 crore has also been sought for defence pensions.
