To ensure punctuality and discipline among teachers, surprise checks were carried out in 984 government schools in various parts of Punjab Tuesday.
An education department spokesperson said that during the special checking, a total of 35 teachers were found absent, 51 teachers were late and 23 teachers were found to be long time absentees.
The checks, in three education circles of Jalandhar, Faridkot and Nabha (Patiala district), were conducted following directions from state Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema.
Cheema directed senior officers to ensure 100 percent attendance of teachers.
