Take concrete steps to control pollution, BJP tells Kejriwal

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of being busy in politics rather than taking concrete steps to control pollution.

BJP's Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay said: "In place of issuing new statements everyday, Kejriwal should take concrete steps on controlling pollution."

"Yesterday (Sunday) he was telling that the cause of pollution in Delhi was due to the burning of stubbles in the fields and now he says that the brick kilns are the cause of pollution in NCR (National Capital Region)," Upadhyay said.

Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Upadhyay said: "Now the people have fully understood that if the burning of stubbles was the main cause of pollution in Delhi then why the condition in Haryana and Punjab wasn't worse?"

Upadhyay said that while the chief minister has talked about brick kilns, "most of them were situated in Ghaziabad and Faridabad districts, where the condition was also not like Delhi.

Slamming the AAP government for being "busy in Punjab elections", Upadhyay said: "In November 2015 they said that the main reason for pollution in Delhi was vehicular pollution."

"They announced two measures to deal with air pollution issue, one to observe car free day on every 22nd of every month and another odd-even scheme," Upadhyay said.

"Now, nobody remembers when was the last car free day observed," he said, adding: "Even more than six months has elapsed after the last odd-even scheme, but they haven't done anything."
