Tata Motors' July sales up by one percent

Auto maker Tata Motors on Saturday posted an one percent increase in its total sales during July this year at 40,154 units against 39,629 vehicles sold during the same month in 2014.

Domestic sales, however, registered a decline of one percent in the period at 35,076 units compared to 35,266 vehicles sold during July 2014, said a company statement.

The company's passenger vehicles segment recorded a growth of 13 percent with sales of 10,389 units in the month as compared to 9,167 vehicles in the same month last year.

The company said the growth trend was driven by the cars segment, specifically the new launches of Zest, Bolt and the new GenX Nano. The sale of the passenger cars in July 2015 were higher by 27 percent at 8,520 units, compared to 6,703 units in July 2014. The utility vehicle sales, however, declined by 24 percent at 1,869 units in the month.

In commercial vehicles, medium and heavy commercial vehicles continued its growth trend increasing by 21 percent at 11,808 units over July 2014. The light and small commercial vehicle sales, however declined by 21 percent at 12,879 vehicles over July 2014.

The company's sales from exports stood at 5,078 units in July 2015 - higher by 16 percent compared to 4,363 vehicles in July 2014.

The firm's cumulative sales including exports for the current fiscal year stands at 1,56,664 units which is higher by five percent compared to 1,49,633 vehicles sold in the previous fiscal year.
