Filmmaker M. Manikandan's debut Tamil film "Kaaka Muttai", which is about the adventures of two street urchins for their first bite of pizza, has been exempted from entertainment tax in Karnataka.
"'Kaakka Muttai' is a small film with a huge heart and the unanimous appreciation that it has been getting from audience has truly overwhelmed us. We are thrilled to announce that film has got a tax free status in Karnataka. We at Fox Star Studios would like to thank the state government for extending support to our film," Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, told IANS.
Two weeks since its release in Indian theatres, the movie has won appreciation from all quarters. More than that, it has gone on to prove that content is the king by raking in the moolah.
Reportedly made under a budget of Rs.1 crore, the film has said to have collected over Rs.10 crore and continues to run to packed houses across cinemas, both in multiplexes and even smaller, single screens.
Starring child actors Vignesh and Ramesh, the film was jointly produced by filmmaker Vetrimaaran and actor Dhanush, who had said he was proud to have backed it as its lead actors reminded him of himself and his filmmaker-brother Selvaraghavan.
Aishwarya Rajesh, a promising actress, essays an important role as the mother of the children.
"Kakka Muttai" has turned out to be one of the most profitable Tamil films of the year so far.
