A total of 171 soldiers were killed while fighting terrorists in 2012-14, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday.
He said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that 61 soldiers died in 2012, 54 in 2013 and 56 were killed in 2014.
The minister said compensation was paid to the families of the soldiers as per rules.
Families of deceased officers get Rs.50 lakh from the army group insurance while those of Junior Commissioned Officers and others get Rs.25 lakh. They also get ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh.
