Filming of "Thor: Ragnarok", the third instalment in the "Thor" film series starring Chris Hemsworth, has begun in Australia.

The filming went underway on Monday at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford, Gold Coast, Queensland, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Serving behind the lens is Taika Waititi, who is known for his works on HBO's series "Flight of the Conchords" and mockumentary "What We Do in the Shadows".

Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito took to Twitter to wish the crew and the cast good luck.

"Best of luck to Taika Waititi and the whole cast and crew of 'Thor: Ragnarok'. July 4 they started filming. Australia is in the future," D'Esposito wrote.

The film also stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Jeff Goldblum.
