Three more Ugandan women speak out against Bharti raid

Three more Ugandan women Thursday came out against the midnight raid led by Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti against an alleged drug and prostitution racket, taking the number of African nationals to speak out in the matter to eight.

Two Indians have also recorded their statements in the case.

Two Ugandan women recorded their statements while one filed a complaint in a Delhi court in the case related to a midnight raid on some African nationals last week in Khirki Extension of Malviya Nagar in south Delhi.

"Two African nationals have recorded their statement before a magisterial court here. Earlier, five African nationals and two Indians, including the caretaker of the house where the raid took place, recorded their statement before the magistrate," police told IANS.

Earlier Thursday, an Ugandan woman moved the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Chetna Singh seeking registration of an FIR against unknown people for creating a ruckus during a raid between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., on Jan 16.

She had come to India for medical treatment, believing that the country offered high quality medical facilities, said police.

The metropolitan magistrate directed the deputy commissioner of police of south Delhi to file a report on her complaint by Jan 25.

None of the three Ugandan nationals have mentioned the Delhi law minister in their statements.

Advocate Rakesh Sherawat, appearing for the complainant, told the court Thursday that his client had come to know through the media that the assailants were from the Aam Aadmi Party, led by their local legislator (Bharti).
