Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers in Varanasi ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's day-long visit to his parliamentary constituency today.
Extra forces have been commissioned for the VVIP visit, an official told IANS.
The official said places around Babatpur airport, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Jagannath temple near Assi Ghat will see heavy deployment of security personnel.
The Special Protection Group has taken over all vantage positions and venues.
Modi's arrival here has been delayed by over an hour because of dense fog and inclement weather.
The prime minister will take part in a string of events, after which he will leave for New Delhi late evening.
