To promote road safety and help people learn safe two-wheeler riding, a traffic training park was inaugurated Monday in central Delhi.

The park is the second traffic training park in the national capital set up by the two-wheeler automobile makers Honda.

"This is a great initiative by Honda and (we) hope such initiatives will bring down the number of deaths caused by road accident," Muktesh Chander, special commissioner, Delhi Police Traffic said while inaugurating the park.

On the occasion, Vimla Mehra, special commissioner - Administration, Delhi Police was also present.

Spread over 1,172 sq.m., the park will be open to all those above five years in age.

Honda's skilled safety instructors will conduct road safety education with a special focus on new, and female riders.

According to a recent World Health Organization report, India has the highest number of road deaths in the world - 105,725 in 400,000 accidents, followed by China (96,611), the US (42,642) and Russia (35,972).

Describing Honda's experience in promoting road safety in Delhi, Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO, Honda motorcycle and scooter, India said: "In just one and half years, Honda has educated over 85,000 people across India at our 5 traffic training Parks in Jaipur, Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Nasik."

"Of this, a significant 27,000 were Delhi citizens," Muramatsu said.

He said Honda has adopted its second traffic training park so that more people in Delhi and NCR become aware of road safety as well as learn safe two-wheeler riding.

"People can conveniently learn to ride two-wheeler safely by Honda's skilled safety instructors," he said.
