The BJP Monday dismissed the protests of Trinamool Congress parliamentarians over the recovery of a diary concerning the Sahara Group that allegedly mentions BJP chief Amit Shah's name, saying the ruling party in West Bengal was "rattled" by the response to Shah's Sunday rally in Kolkata.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the Trinamool was making baseless allegations against Shah.
Trinamool members Monday staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha, seeking answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recovery of the diary.
"They are rattled by the response in Kolkata. They are frustrated. The land is slipping from under Trinamool," Naidu said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party also issued a statement later, saying the allegations against Shah by Trinamool Congress parliamentarians were false.
"Their parliamentarians are staging protests to cover up for failures of the government in West Bengal," BJP secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
He said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was worried over the response to the BJP's Sunday rally.
"The rise of the BJP has taken away Trinamool's sleep," he said.
He accused the Trinamool leadership of following a policy of appeasement and said it was putting the country's security at risk.
"Unfortunately, Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool leadership are busy trying to save the accused in the Saradha chit fund scam. It is creating roadblocks in the probe into the Burdwan blast. It is defending illegal migrants from Bangladesh who are a threat to the country's security," he said.
Sharma said "reverse counting" has started for the Trinamool government and it will be voted out in the next election.
