"As part of the all-India agitation against the Centre's November 8 demonetisation, we urge the people of Tripura to observe the 12-hour strike across the state," Tripura Left Front convenor and former Lok Sabha member Khagen Das told reporters here.
Accompanied by other Left leaders, he said the four Left parties in Tripura will also organise a two-hour protest demonstration in front of the central government offices on November 26 on the issue.
"We have already requested the Centre to continue with the use of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency till December 30 or until the cash crunch is dealth with."
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is the leading partner in the ruling Left Front in Tripura.
Das, a former Health and Revenue Minister in Tripura, said the people, especially the poor, farmers, unorganised workers, daily labourers, small and medium traders are the worst victim of the Modi government's demonetisation decision.
On Tuesday, six Left parties, including the CPI-M and the Communist Party of India, announced in New Delhi a week-long mass movement across the country beginning from Thursday.
