The Tripura Assembly on Monday unanimously ratified the Constitutional Amendment Bill on Goods and Services Tax (GST).
State Finance and Information Minister Bhanulal Saha moved a resolution to ratify the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Second Amendment) Bill, 2014 on the last day of the three-day assembly session.
Members of the opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress did not raise any queries on the issue, nor did members from the ruling Left Front make any point on any possible impact of GST in the northeastern state.
President Pranab Mukherjee on September 8 gave assent to the Constitution Amendment Bill on GST after it passed by the both houses of Parliament and was ratified by the legislative assemblies of at least 50 per cent of the states.
The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, popularly known as the GST bill, after passed by the both houses of Parliament, circulated to the state governments for ratification.
The GST, which seen as a significant step to reform indirect taxation in the country, is a single indirect tax, which will subsume most of the central and state taxes such as the Value Added Tax, excise duty, service tax, central sales tax, additional customs duty and special additional duty of customs.
