Two accused in the killing of Arunanchal Pradesh student Nido Tania Friday withdrew their bail pleas as the probe has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Accused Pawan and Sunder requested Additional Sessions Judge Rajender Kumar Shastri to let them withdraw their bail applications. Defence counsel Shalabh Gupta said that he will file these later as he needs time to file fresh applications taking note of the probe conducted by the CBI.
The court allowed the two to withdraw their bail applications.
Both the accused, along with Farmaan and Sunny Uppal, have been booked for murder.
Police have told the court that according to the post-mortem examination report, Tania died due to "serious" internal head injuries.
Initially, Pawan, Sunder and Farman were arrested Feb 3 and booked under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for passing racist remarks against Tania.
The bail pleas were being heard by a special court exclusively dealing with cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Nineteen-year-old Tania was beaten up by shopkeepers in south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area Jan 29 following a quarrel over his appearance and clothing. He died in a hospital the next day.
