At least two people were killed Friday during clashes between security forces and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Egypt's Fayoum province, state media reported.

One of the victims, 38, was hit by cartouche shots while the other, a 62-year-old teacher, died of tear gas suffocation, Xinhua quoted the media report as saying, adding that some residents sided with the police in confronting the pro-Morsi march.

The anti-government protest in Fayoum was part of pro-Morsi marches staged simultaneously across the country, such as the capital Cairo, nearby Giza, the seaside city of Alexandria and some other provinces, including Qena, Minya and Beheira.

Since Morsi's ouster by the military last July, his supporters have been holding anti-government protests, referring to his removal as a coup and demanding his reinstatement in office.
