Two new balls in ODIs perfect recipe for disaster: Tendulkar

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has lashed out at the ICC rule of using two new balls in ODIs, terming the idea as "a perfect recipe for disaster."

Tendulkar opined after watching the high scoring matches in the ongoing series between England and Australia.

Significantly, England had created a world record of 481/6 on Tuesday against Australia in the third ODI of the five-match series. In the next game on Friday, Australia put 312/8, which was overhauled by the hosts with ease in just 44.4 overs.

"Having 2 new balls in one day cricket is a perfect recipe for disaster as each ball is not given the time to get old enough to reverse. We haven't seen reverse swing, an integral part of the death overs, for a long time," Tendulkar wrote in his Twitter handle.

Notably, the idea of using two new balls from the different ends in ODIs was introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2011.

Tendulkar's view was also supported by former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis, who said that it is because of this rule that reverse swing has 'almost vanished' from the ODI games.

"Reason why we don't produce many attacking fast bowlers..They all very defensive in their approach...always looking for change ups..totally agree with you @sachin_rt reverse swing is almost vanished.." Younis tweeted.
