UN Secretary General Ban Ki- moon on Monday deplored coalition airstrikes on a UN compound in Aden, Yemen, urging a full investigation into the incident.

The airstrike that happened on Sunday seriously damaged a UN Development Programme office and injured a guard, UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said, Xinhua reported.

"The inviolability of UN premises and the important work of all United Nations staff must be respected at all times," Haq said.

"The secretary general strongly believes that this incident only underscores the imperative that all the parties to the conflict must end the fighting and return to the negotiation table as the only possible way to achieve a durable peace in Yemen," he added.

Saudi-led coalition has been fighting Houthis for months without any sign to end this war, especially after the failure of talks among Yemeni political parties in Geneva.
