Body of an unidentified woman was found at a river bank in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Monday, police said.
"A woman, aged around 32 years, was found dead near a ghat (river bank) of South 24 Parganas district's Diamond Harbour on Monday morning," an officer from Diamond Harbour Police Station said.
She was believed to have been killed by strangulation, as a piece of cloth was wrapped around the throat when the body was found, he said.
Police said the identity of the woman was yet to be confirmed.
"The deceased is yet to be identified. We have got in touch with the adjacent police stations to find if any woman went missing in the past a few day. The body has been sent for autopsy," the officer added.
