The Obama administration confirmed Friday that a US citizen had carried out a suicide bombing in war-torn Syria.
"I can confirm that this individual was a US citizen involved in a suicide bombing in Syria," Xinhua quoted State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki as telling reporters at a daily news briefing.
Though she refused to give more details, but admitted that this was the first time an American citizen had got involved in such attack in Syria since the conflict started there in March 2011.
The American, who called himself Abu Huraira al-Amriki, launched a truck bombing attack in Syria's northern province of Idlib Sunday.
