US Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan invited President Barack Obama to deliver his final State of the Union address before Congress on January 12, 2016.
"As we look ahead to the new year, we have both an opportunity and an obligation to find common ground to advance the nation's interests at home and abroad," Xinhua quoted Ryan as saying on Monday in a letter to Obama.
"We also owe it to American people to present solutions that address the challenges they face."
It is a tradition in the US that the State of the Union is typically an annual address presented by the president to a joint session of the US Congress on conditions of the country as well as the legislative agenda of the administration.
