Observing that 'jihadi terrorism cannot be tackled through military action alone, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday urged the United Nations to evolve policies to ensure demographic balance through equal population rights.

Referring to a report from American think tank Pew Research Center, VHP Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain pointed out that the Muslim population growth rate is 70 per cent, whereas the Hindus are growing at a rate of 34 per cent only.

"So, it is all the more important for India to have policies urgently to check demographic imbalance, as it is headed to become the country with largest Muslim population in the world by 2050," Jain said in a statement.

Terming the rising population of the Muslim community globally as the "biggest-ever threat" looming over the world, the VHP leader said at present, the Muslim population the world over accounts for 23 per cent of the total population, which will swell to 30 per cent by 2050.

"If jihadi terrorism can become such a big problem when the Muslim population stands at 23 per cent, the situation cannot be even imagined when their population hits 30 per cent," Jain said, quoting figures from the the Pew Research Center report.

"The VHP believes that military action alone is not the answer to jihadi terrorism; there is a need to eliminate the mindset influenced by Muslim invaders like Muhammad Ghori, Mahmud of Ghazni and Osama bin Laden," Jain added.
