Vikram Solar announced on Tuesday that it has successfully
commissioned a 40 mega watt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant for IL&FS Energy Development Co.
The plant, spread over 260 acres of land in Madhya Pradesh, was installed within six months in two phases of 20 MW each, the company said in a release here.
"Connected to the national grid, the PV plant is expected to generate an average of 79,200,000 kWh (kiloWatt-hour) of solar power in its first full year of operation. It is connected to a 132 kV transmission line," Vikram Solar said.
The project was awarded to IL&FS Energy Development by the Solar Energy Corporation of India as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission run by the ministry of new and renewable energy, the statement added.
Vikram Solar said the plant uses the company made high-efficiency polycrystalline PV
modules, in line with the national solar mission's aim to promote local production of solar components.
"This plant is one of the flagship projects under the JNNSM Phase-2 scheme. We
use modules that are manufactured in Falta, West Bengal, using PV cells made exclusively in India," the statement said.
