FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets said on Thursday that he wants teammate Pedro Rodriguez to stay on at the Spanish football club, but stressed that it is up to the winger to take a call on his future.
Pedro is unhappy with his lack of playing time with the Catalan giants and Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez recently confirmed that he has requested a transfer.
Spanish international Busquets however, is hoping that his compatriot Pedro will snub a lucrative offer from English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United in favour of a prolonged stay at Barcelona.
"I am selfish and I want Pedro to stay. We are friends and he gives a lot to the team," Busquets was quoted as saying by goal.com.
"Until there is any official word, the entire team hopes he will stay here. It is a difficult moment for him, but we wish him all the best."
The central midfielder also asserted that Pedro, 28, wants to stay on at the European champions, but a lack of playing time has put him in a difficult situation.
"He wants to stay at Barcelona, but he also wants regular playing time, like every player in the world. I hope that whatever happens is what's best for him," Busquets remarked.
"He will always give his all for the team, whether he stays here or moves on. It is up to him to make a decision. He will continue to give his all for the team right until the end," the 27-year-old added.
"Until we're told otherwise, Pedro is still a Barcelona player and we hope he stays. This is a tough time for him because, like any other player he wants to play more, but the most important thing is that whatever happens is what's best for you."
