Led by weavers, the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Autumn Winter 2017, started the day with the work of students of The Handloom School.

To amplify the long-term relationships between the weaving community spread across 11 weaving centres in India and the Indian Fashion industry, The Handloom School supported by Good Earth in association with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) showcased a collection made by its weavers in collaboration with ace designers.

The weaving centres are: Chattisgarh, Varanasi, Uttarakand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chanderi, Mobarikpur, Orissa, Bihar, Telangana and Maheshwar.

The fashion extravaganza is being held here at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

With the background music of weavers' working, models walked the grass laden ramp, barefeet with ruffled hair.

The ensembles ranged from tunics, saris, different pleats, jumpsuits , wrap around skirts in layers with coats and capes.

The colours ranged from hues of blue, ivory to pale yellow.

The male models walked in quilted jackets, jumpsuits, in hues of blue, pink, yellow, grey and black.

The weavers, who created magic for the first show of Day 1, also walked the ramp in the end.

The show was also attended by Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday.

Thirteen key designers and labels that participated include Akaaro, Antar-Agni, Eka, Good Earth, Neeru Kumar, Nicobar, Pero, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Raw Mango, Rohit Bal, Suket Dhir, Urvashi Kaur & and 11:11 Eleven Eleven.

"This show is a great opportunity for The Handloom School graduates and its future students to synergise the potential of traditional and modern textile design. AIFW A/W 2017 will end on March 18.
