Actor Robert Pattinson had a unique reason to become a model in his early days - he says he wanted to get closer to girls.

The 27-year-old, who first worked as a model before finding fame in movies such as "The Twilight Saga", says he never planned to make a career of it, but just wanted to get close to the opposite sex.

"I became a model to meet girls. I was simply still young. I did it without a plan for a career of any form," contactmusic.com quoted Pattinson as saying.
