The Aam Admi Party (AAP) Friday slammed the Delhi government for failing to curb onion prices and demanded an inquiry into reports of onion hoarding by some traders.

"News reports suggest that difference between wholesale and retail price of onions in Delhi is unusually high, by Rs.30 to Rs.40, compared to other parts of the country where it is only Rs.2 to Rs.15," said a statement issued by AAP.

"The matter requires urgent action as hoarding of onions and artificial jacking up of prices is severely affecting the people of Delhi," it added.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said that the price of onions in Delhi was Rs.100 per kg which is not natural.

"We demand urgent inquiry into reports of onion hoarding. The common man is suffering due to the collusion between those traders and suppliers who are creating an artificial shortage of onions," said Kejriwal.

He further questioned the inaction of the Delhi government in providing relief to the common man and said that onions should be brought from areas like Pune and Nashik, if needed.
