Will handle PMO-driven National Herald case legally: Rahul Gandhi

Talking about assembly elections in Assam he said that his party will return to power in the 2016 polls

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the Prime Minister's Office of pushing the National Herald case and said the party would handle it legally.

"The issue is something driven by the Prime Minister's Office. It's (Young India Limited) a not-for-profit company and it's very clear. Let's see what happens on the 19th (December)," Rahul Gandhi told media persons on the sidelines of a function here.

Parliament witnessed disruptions over the National Herald case this week after a Delhi court asked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to appear on December 19 in the National Herald case.
 

 

Rahul Gandhi, who interacted with women entrepreneurs in Guwahati and addressed grass-roots workers of the Congress said his party would return to power in Assam in the next assembly elections.

"We have just defeated our opponents in Bihar. We are going to do the same in Assam in the 2016 polls. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-ji has worked very hard, the Congress also has worked very very hard here to try to help the people of Assam, to help the women of Assam. I am very confident about our party here," the Congress vice president said.

He hinted at reaching a poll alliance with other parties in Assam but made it clear that Gogoi and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta would take the call on the issue.

"In Assam, the chief minister is in charge. The PCC president and the chief minister will decide what happens in Assam. It's up to them. We are in conversation with some political parties," Gandhi said.

He, however, did not mention any party or whether a pre- or post-poll alliance was in the offing.
