A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for having attacked a woman who repeatedly turned down his marriage proposal, police said.

Wasim, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, attacked 21-year-old Sultana with a sharp-edged weapon when she was alone at her house in east Delhi's Ghazipur in June, police said.

The man was arrested from Noida, and a case of attempt to murder has been registered.

"Wasim was in love with Sultana and he proposed to her several times. After repeated rejections from the victim, he got enraged and attacked her to teach her a lesson," police said.
