Two women bank employees were robbed of Rs 20 lakh in broad daylight in the Cantonment area of the state capital on Thursday, police said.
IG Lucknow A. Satish Ganesh said that two bike-borne miscreants tried to snatch the bag containing money from Nirmala Devi, a peon in the United Bank of India branch in the Cantonment area. She was accompanied by Usha Chowdhary, the branch's deputy manager.
As Nirmala resisted, the miscreants rained blows on her, snatched the bag and sped away.
Senior police officials rushed to the crime scene and a team has been constituted to work out the robbery case.
The incident took place near the residence of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
