All manner of questions are asked in Parliament, but this one was perhaps the strangest. Two MPs, Sanjay Dina Patil and G S Basavraj, wanted to know whether the research output of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) had gone down over the years and whether it had “converted a part of its premises for other purposes”. Defence Minister A K Antony told the MPs that the quantity of research hadn’t fallen and, as for quality, IDSA had various methods, including peer reviews, to look after this. On the premises, the minister said the management of residential and conference facilities had been entrusted to a private agency.
