The Congress badly lost the Bhatgaon Assembly by-election in Chhattisgarh and the victorious BJP did not miss the opportunity to add to its woes. The state’s public works department minister and the party’s election in-charge for the by-election, Brijmohan Agrawal, attributed the BJP’s victory with a record number of votes to many “insiders” in Congress. This has prompted senior Congress leaders to set aside the usual post-poll introspection in favour of a hunt for the identity of the “insider”. Agrawal seems to have succeeded in his mission — divide the Congress and rule Chhattisgarh.
