Former Telecom Minister A Raja, who’s lodged in jail over charges of corruption in allocating spectrum to some businesses in 2007-08, is believed to have shown signs of joy at the news of the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran as textile minister. Raja, who was at a local court for the 2G case on Thursday, even asked his followers to distribute sweets on hearing the Maran news, it is learnt. The rivalry between Maran and Raja in DMK politics is quite well known. In 2007, Dayanidhi had to quit as the then telecom minister following severe differences between the Maran brothers and MK Azhagiri, son of the then chief minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi. Dayanidhi Maran and brother Kalanithi Maran are grand nephews of Karunanidhi. Raja, who has been a Karunanidhi loyalist, replaced Dayanidhi as the telecom minister in 2007. The rest, as they say, is history.
