Letters: Unfair, Sir

Finance Minister Arun Jaitely was being less than fair to our crucial law-making process by refusing to commit himself amidst consistent demands by the Opposition members, led by the Congress, in the Rajya Sabha during GST debate that he wouldn't choose the money Bill route while bringing in the GST legislation, once the Constitution is amended.

The need for such a commitment was felt more imperative in the background of Jaitley earlier presenting the Aadhar Bill as a money Bill.

The matter as, expected, is now before the Supreme Court. It would not only be highly inappropriate for the Finance Minister to repeat his ill-conceived Aadhar Bill strategy, such a move would also amount to subverting the Constitutional provisions for legislation.
