NBCC's inbuilt problem

National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) faces a unique problem when it comes to redevelopment projects for the government. It has trouble evicting government employees and officers from housing estates that are earmarked for redevelopment. This happened when NBCC started redeveloping Moti Bagh in south Delhi, and the corporation faces the same problem in East Kidwai Nagar in central-south Delhi. NBCC officials say government employees seem to forget that they are subject to official rules and regulations and think nothing of lobbying ministers and politicians to stay in their old accommodation. The problem is apparently worse in government housing colonies that have resident welfare associations.
