Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee ducked most questions related to policy with a stock ‘I can’t reveal anything as I have to present the Budget first’. There was one policy statement, however, that he made, and without even being asked about it. “From June 1, entry for journalists into North Block will be blocked”. The finance ministry is always out of bounds for journalists a month or so before the Budget is presented, but this is the first time a minister has announced the schedule for the out-of-bounds period.
