Last Friday, the wedding of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Chandan Mitra’s son was attended by several VVIPs cutting across various political parties. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee also made a political statement when they arrived. The two leaders came in the same car to show to the BJP camp there were no differences between the Congress and its biggest ally, the Trinamool Congress, over the demand for a parliamentary probe into the 2G scam. Banerjee was initially scheduled to go to Kolkata on Friday afternoon, but decided to stay back in Delhi just to attend the wedding after Mitra personally came and requested her.
