Larsen & Toubro chief A M Naik is a favourite with journalists since he guarantees a quotable quote every time they meet him. Sometimes, though, his plainspeak can upset some of them. And so he did at the recent 65th AGM of the company at which Naik proudly announced to his shareholders that he was about to receive a business leadership award from a private business news channel. What he forgot (or didn’t realise) is that the information was supposed to be confidential till they were officially announced. Naturally, the senior editorial team of the channel was livid at Naik’s indiscretion. Last heard, urgent damage control exercises were underway at L&T House. Some exclusive interviews may soothe nerves.
