A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had a wicked smile on his face when he paid Sonia Gandhi a back-handed compliment saying, “Mrs Gandhi’s favourite initiative, the Right to Information Act, is making history!” But, he added, “It could be the undoing of her government.” The BJP leader was seriously worried that RTI Act could impair governance in India and hurt the country in the long run. “A developing country facing terrorism and extremism needs an effective government. RTI is making government ineffective,” he said.
