BJP, whose leaders met the Governor and submitted a letter to him, said, with the general election declared and state going to polls on April 17, "We are deeply concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, particularly in Bangalore."
Alleging that the Chief Minister and Home Minister were indifferent to the "alarming" situation, they said both have failed to provide effective leadership to contain this "malady."
"We fear, this situation may be exploited by the anti-social elements during the poll campaign to create an atmosphere of fear, which could derail the peaceful campaigning by the political parties," they added.
The delegation of BJP leaders who met the Governor was led by former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka.
Pointing out a few communal incidents that happened in the state, the letter said "the ugly rise of fundamentalist forces, who are actively indulging in anti-social activities, is unchecked as they are being patronised by the powerful sections of the ruling party.
