The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was on Monday overruled by the Speaker Meira Kumar to register a protest against the Joint Parliamentary Report on 2G scam.
Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said the party expected the Speaker to be more fair and neutral in the Parliament, adding: "We are all saddened by the fact, that the honorable speaker did not allow us express our opinions on the JPC report."
"After P.C. Chacko tabled the report, we got up to protest against it. The manner in which the report was prepared, is in fact in violation of all the rules and regulations, Speaker's directions, and, the norms of the house. So all of us got up to protest and raise the points of order on the report," Sinha added.
"It is our right to raise the points of order and it is the duty of the speaker to hear them. But she overruled everything, and, allowed this fraudulent and fabricated report to be tabled in the house,"
"It is a very sad day for our parliamentary functioning. We all know that the Speaker is the ultimate repository of the parliament. We had expected a more fair treatment of our demands from her and unfortunately that has not happened. So it is a sad day for our democracy,"
Another senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, echoing similar opinion, said: "We wanted to raise the point of order. But she overruled us and allowed the report to be tabled. This has never happened before. It is a serious report and many people have expressed their dissatisfaction with the report as it is based on wrong facts and politically motivated,"
"It is sad that the Speaker did not listen to us. It is a violation of parliamentary process and also harms the dignity of parliament. This happened so as to hide the corruption in the government," Joshi added.
Referring to the results of the Assembly elections, he said: "The Congress party has a history of violating parliamentary order, Supreme Court's order and also the Constitution of India. I believe the nation is watching all this and will punish them as they did in the Assembly elections."
Earlier the JPC chairman P.C. Chacko tabled the JPC report on 2G scam in Parliament. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party (DMK) staged a walkout in protest against the report.
Speaker Meira Kumar disallowed any debate on the report, during Zero Hour.
The controversial report, on 2G spectrum scam, gives a clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. The report also rubbishes the 1.76 lakh crore loss figure, which was estimated by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), terming it as 'ill-conceived'.
