Brahmins demand 40 seats from BJP in Rajasthan Assembly polls

Extending its support to BJP, a group representing Brahmins today demanded that the party should allot at least 40 out of 200 seats to candidates belonging to the community in the coming Rajasthan Assembly elections.

Ambika Prakash Pathak, state president of Rajasthan Brahmin Samaj, said when Vasundhara Raje was Chief Minister, she had given a 14 per cent quota to the upper caste.

"80 lakh Brahmins (of the state) will go with Vasundhara Raje. They demand tickets to leaders belonging to their community on at least 40 out of 200 Assembly seats going to polls on December 1," Pathak said here.

On this occasion, Gopal Bhardwaj Singhnad, state spokesman of the Samaj, alleged that the Gehlot government had announced number of posts of manager, priest and attendants in Devesthan-run temples, but neglected quota to Brahmins, who should be the actual beneficiary.
