Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Thursday asked party workers to effectively counter the allegations of corruption levelled by opposition parties and a section of the media against the Narendra Modi government by highlighting pro-development initiatives taken by the central government.

Shah said such campaigns would not have any impact on the functioning of the BJP-led government. He asked the party members to strengthen the organisation and consolidate its position so that the Modi-led government will continue to be in office not just for five years but for 25 years.

Shah said, “The objective is that the BJP gets a full majority and for that, everybody needs to work hard. Those who are holding posts in the party or in the government or those who are party members should work hard to make the party stronger and thereby win a majority.”

Shah said the party workers should ensure that Maharashtra, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would continue retain power. However, the party workers will have to make extra efforts to win opposition party-ruled states in the coming period.

As far as Maharashtra is concerned, Shah said it was not enough that the party had won 122 seats and had formed the government.

He insisted that party organisation at the village and district levels be strengthened to increase its tally in the state Assembly. Shah's statement is crucial especially when the elections to a majority of zilla parishads and civic bodies including BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation are slated next year.
