Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today ordered an inquiry by the state's Additional Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Das into the recent killing of Superintendent of Police Nityananda Goswami and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Ratul Nunisa.

The chief minister, in a directive issued today, asked Das to probe into the circumstances leading to the death of Goswami, who was the Hamren district Superintendent of Police, and his PSO and submit a report to him, an official release said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister's attention has also been drawn to news-report in a section of the media that bribes are being paid by police officials to get plum postings.

''If such unfair and corrupt practices take place, they will be probed into and stern action taken'',Gogoi said.

Director General of Assam Police Khagen Sarma had earlier ordered an internal police enquiry into the killing of the two policemen and the role of his colleagues during the encounter with Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) militants on June five last. .

The inquiry would be conducted by ADGP of Training and Armed Police Jyotirmoy Chakravarty and the report would be submitted soon.

Chief Minister has already suspended four policemen who, allegedly fled from the site of the encounter leaving behind Goswami and Nunisa.

Goswami was leading an operation against the KPLT in remote Rongthang forest area in Karbi Anglong district when he and his PSO were killed by the militants.
