'It will be difficult for Congress to survive': Modi

Says Congress makes false promises to the nation

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday charged the ruling Congress Party of making false promises to the nation to stay in power.

"Those who make false promises have no right to stay in power. They had promised to control prices in 100 days - did prices come down? They went up," said Modi, while addressing a rally here.

"Those who went back on their promises must be taught a lesson," he added.

Modi said the winds of change are blowing across India, and added that it will be difficult for the Congress to survive.

The Gujarat Chief Minister further charged the Congress Party of carrying out a one -point agenda against him for the past 12 years.

"I am standing in front of you today with god's blessings, the people's wishes and the strength of truth," said Modi.

"They wanted the CBI to fix Modi, but now the CBI seems to have failed. And I don't know what they will do next," he added.

Modi claimed that inflation was under control in the country under the BJP-led governments at the Centre.

"In this country, Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister and BJP or Jan Sangh was a main partner. And there was Atalji's regime. These are the only two periods where inflation was under control," said Modi.

"Whenever there was a Congress or Congress-supported government, the people had to face inflation. Shouldn't a government in a democracy be answerable to the people?" he asked.

Modi said the Congress is so arrogant that it is not willing to answer the media.

"They keep making allegations, it has become fashionable," Modi said.

"Manmohan Singh is the PM but they want answers from Modi. They are more bothered with what I did," he added.

Modi promised that after coming to power the BJP will give its governance report card to the people of the country every year.

"I promise the people of India that when they vote for the BJP in 2014, we will present a summary of what we've done every year, not after 5 years," he said.

Tight security arrangements had been put in place for Modi's rally here today against the backdrop of Sunday's serial blasts in Patna.

Six people were killed and 83 injured in the low intensity blasts that rocked Patna between 9.30 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. on Sunday shortly before Modi's address to a 'Hunkar rally' in Gandhi Maidan.
